In today’s class, Prof. Udani ask us to play a “game”. With fair-sounding music, Udani let each of us to say a word, which is what we really need from our classmates and teachers. He told us that it is the last time for us to ask for help from our friends before we go abroad. I know it sounds quite incredible for most of us. Nevertheless, it is a good opportunity for us to show our expectations for our classmates and what ability we would like to improve by ourselves. Actually, it is very hard for me to say what I need to my friends immediately. However, I thought up some of what I really need after thinking for several minutes.
What I really need is the love and encouragement from my friends and fellows. Imagine that when I was in difficulties and there is no way for me to give up. For instance, I encountered some obstacles when I was organizing some activities and probably I did not manage to carry on. There was someone of my friends that give me a hand and encourage me. They help me to find the ways and cheer me up. They let me know that there were still someone waiting there to accompany me. At that time, I would feel so warm and encouraging. I would have the intention to move on, because it is not my own activity. It carried my friends’ hopes. Thus, there was no reason for me to fail and then I can reach our common goal.
Apart from me, all of my classmates tell what they really need from others, from professors and classmates. Some wanna get more opportunities to enhance their leadership and other skills, such as presentation skills, communication skills and skills of coordinating the team. Some guys are quite similar with my perspective. They focus more on emotional force to help them. They want more encouragement and support from their classmates. In my opinion, the same vision and same passion are the most important thing for a group of my if they are going to plan for something.
In addition, Cathy talked about time. I think it is a good issue and I agree Udani’s idea. Yes, that’s right. Nowadays, as the more courses staff and extra-curriculum staff that we have, the less spare we may have and it becomes very hard for us to make a perfect time schedule. However, we can not save the time because the time is flying away every second. What we could do is to plan better to use every minute that we could use. Otherwise, we may find that no matter how hard we tried our best, we would not reach the goal that we plan to achieve.
Thus, thanks for Cathy and her good help. It remind me of saving…no, to plan my daily time more effective and reasonable and also thanks for Prof.Udani to let us have this opportunity to say what we really need and what we really expect our friends.

A story about poor children's happy life

On 10 March’s Honours College class, Prof. Udani show us a VCR. It’s a true story about the life of poor children in Philippines. In common days, they have little food for them to eat. Only their father or dependent person may bring them some chickens and bread that they picked up from rubbish bin in the fast food restaurant, in which rich people take meals. After watching the VCR, quite a lot of my classmates shed into tears. Firstly, it is terrible that I feel uncomfortable after I saw the VCR. I feel that it is unfair that we have such wonderful living conditions, with sufficient drinks and food. We do not have to suffer the hunger and poverty. Apart from this, it is also unfair for those poor kids to suffer such pain.
However, there is one scene that I will never forget. When the “family” begin to have their dinner. The “father” required his “kids” to pray before they begin to eat. Because I am not a Christian, and perhaps I am not familiar with the meaning of this ritual. Nevertheless, I can feel that they know whom to thank for with sincerity. I think this pure belief show that they really know the things that you have today are what you really need to treasure about.
In addition, I can find that those boys and girls are really happy and enjoyable when they know that they have food to eat. At that time they forget poverty, forget hunger. What in their mind is only hope, happiness and thankfulness. At that time, I am no longer sad about them. Instead of that I feel happy and delightful because of their smiles and laughter. No matter what you encounter in your life, to keep an optimistic living attitude is very important. Besides, I think it is also the responsibility for a leader to share happiness and spread the air of optimistic to infect others to have positive lives.

Wise words from Udani...

Recently, I find Prof. Udani is very talented in wise words. After that he said a leader should be useful on the retreat, he said another word on 3rd March’s class. “ A leader should be completion but not competition with others. “ I think it quite makes sense. A leader’s responsibility is to lead the group to achieve their common goals, but not to compete with his fellows and teammates. It is not wise for a leader to give others inappropriate pressures. For instance, someone who is the leader of a project group should treat everyone in the group equally. If somebody in the group make a mistake, it is wise to encourage him rather then complain on him. Because, the second choice is much more like that the leader shows off by the way of criticizing others. Nevertheless, it is also necessary for a leader to criticize members’ work in most of the appropriate time.
On Wednesday’s class, we talked about the positive and negative aspects of a leader. When it comes to uncompensated overtime, Prof. Udani made a joke on James and everyone in the lecture hall laughed. However, it is indeed a problem which make leaders of student associations or other communities, which focus on the uncompensated service for students. When the work and study have some conflicts, it is difficult for a leader to deal with.
Udani also shows us a ghost story in London. To tell the truth, it is really scared and horrible for us, especially for some of the girls. However, life is just like that, full of surprise and dangers.
It is much more serious especially when you concentrated on something. A sudden change may influence you a lot , and you may difficult to continue your work. At this time, to keep calm and rational is very important.

Dr.Cui Shiping 's Speech
Last Wednesday, Doctor Cui Shi Ping went to UM to give us a speech about city planning and leadership.Before I’ve ever seen him on that day, I only knew that he is the brother of Chief Executive Cui. Apart from this I know nothing about him. After I met him, it is out of my imagination. Firstly, he is an easygoing man. I’m the one who was responsible to reception with Yolanda. Therefore, we need to stand by outside the library to wait for him. To my surprise, Dr. Cui just walk to UM library without anyone accompanying.
Secondly, he does go on and he is a brilliant conversationalist. Friendly, kind and excellent presentations...all the factors show us that he is an fascinating person. I am glad that I have a talk with him before his speech. I know that to be friendly and kind is a necessary factor for a great leader. They have the power to let others follow them and trust them.
Dr.Cui ‘s speech is splendid. He mainly talked about the city planning. From his speech, I can feel his love of his hometown and his comprehension of Macau folk culture. To be a leader of some place or some groups, I think firstly you must love and trust your fellows, your people. Because they are the ones who you need to serve. Only if you trust and love them, you are qualified to gain their belief and love.
One of the words that Dr. Cui mentioned in his speech make great sense to me, that is, you reap what you sow when you were a university student. However, you may not gain what you sow when you step into the real world, even if you paid a lot of effort on that staff. The world is always cruel. Perhaps our effort may not let us have the best result. Nevertheless, we need to accept and adjust to it but not to complain about the real world. To be optimistic and positive towards failure is the power for someone to move on.
